Meet the Officers!

David Master – President

David comes to Baruch College with a background in the arts industry.  After receiving his BFA with honors from Rutgers University, he founded an online art gallery which he ran for several years.  He is a professional sculptor who is now focusing on his other passion- business strategy.  David is in the Honors MBA Program (class of 2013) and is interested in using creative problem solving to optimize business efficiency, as well as utilizing the power of business to create positive social impact on its community without negatively affecting its bottom line. He looks forward to working with the rest of the talented Sustainable Business Club team as they continue to put together great initiatives for the 2012 year.

Jenny Jackson – Vice President

With a background in fashion, Jenny sought an MBA at Baruch to enhance her business acumen, and in the pursuit of skills to operate her own sustainable textile firm. Jenny received a BS in Textiles and Apparel from the University of Texas in Austin, a place she holds dear in her heart. She also studied and worked in Paris for an Haute Couture designer before moving to New York City to work for Calvin Klein. After a few years of the hustle and bustle as a retail and visual merchandiser, she retreated to a yoga ashram in upstate New York, where she spent over a year studying and working full time as a yoga teacher and volunteer staff. Most recently, she designed a showcase booth at the New York International Gift Fair for a fair trade company that promotes global women artisan initiatives. Jenny seeks to help others through business. She loves being outdoors, creative projects of any caliber, practicing yoga and singing whenever.

Santiago Perez – Treasurer

Born in Mexico City, where he lived for fourteen years, and where he would eventually like to settle. He pursued his undergraduate education at McGill University in Montreal, graduating with a Bachelor’s in Sociology. In 2009, Santiago traveled to Kenya on an academic engagement with McGill, after which he remained for eight months working at a microfinance institution. There he met the team who together would become the founding members  of the Community Alliance Network, an international nonprofit. He has been the Financial Officer of CAN for the last two years and is proud of what the organization has been able to achieve in that time (www.theworldcan.org). He is currently pursuing an MBA Majoring in Statistics and in Sustainable Business. He works at the Midtown Manhattan Small Business Development Center, which provides support to entrepreneurs in defining, financing and better managing their businesses. His specialties include entrepreneurship, quantitative modeling, non-profit management and microfinance.

Guthrie Jones – Secretary

Guthrie is currently pursuing an MBA full-time at CUNY Baruch College Zicklin School of Business, with a focus on Sustainable Business. He has spent most of his life exploring the many different aspects of sustainability and environmentalism, ranging from environmental education programs, to renewable energy projects, to residential green construction. His primary interest is how sustainable ideas and profitable business models can best interact and grow. He has spent the last five years developing and implementing some of these ideas at IceStone, a green manufacturing startup based out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He looks forward to contributing to the Sustainable Business Club and hopes to meet many like-minded people through the organization.

Erica Glenn – VP, Marketing

Erica is a native New Yorker, currently pursuing her MBA full-time at CUNY Baruch College, Zicklin School of Business.  She is majoring in Management in Sustainability and International Business and is a part of the class of 2013.  She is passionate about microfinance and how it empowers social entrepreneurs to lift themselves out of poverty.  She looks forward to incorporating this topic into the Sustainable Business Club’s programs throughout the year.  For example, we plan to sponsor a social entrepreneur, either in the US or internationally, and track his or her progress throughout the year.  As Vice President of strategic marketing, Erica plans on making sure the clubs’s events are highly publicized and encouraging more students to attend the events.

Motoko Hagiwara – VP, IT

A New York resident for over 15 years, Motoko studied statistics in college and is studying accounting at Baruch. She has worked in the financial services industry for five years, mostly in operational risk management and project management. She is interested in sustainability and has been involved in volunteering with GrowNYC’s OFFICE OF RECYCLING OUTREACH & EDUCATION (OROE) in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. She enjoys discovering new cafes, cooking and swimming in her spare time.
